S.KOREA GETS FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 SPOT AFTER BEATING IRAQ

S.Korea gets a FIFA World Cup 2026 spot after beating Iraq on Friday to become the sixth nation to advance to football’s global showcase.

Furthermore, the Taeguk Warriors advanced after Kim Jin-gyu and Oh Hyeon-gyu delivered goals in the second half to formalize their entry in a third round Group B qualifying match.

Moreover, South Korea thus secured a World Cup stint for the 11th-straight time amid disappointed Iraqi fans at the Basra International Stadium.

The victory means the Taeguk Warriors are assured of second place in their group.

This is regardless of their qualifying match result against Kuwait next Tuesday.

South Korea currently has 19 points on five victories and four draws.

They led Group B, which puts them seven points ahead of No.3 Iraq (12 points).

HONG ‘MORE PREPARED’ TO LEAD TAEGUK WARRIORS AFTER CHECKERED CAREER AS PLAYER, COACH, MANAGER

Hong is “more prepared” to lead the Taeguk Warriors after his checkered career as a player, coach, and manager.

Moreover, the 56-year-old former sweeper during his playing years has gone a long way.

Furthermore, he was an assistant coach under manager Dick Advocaat to a coach in the U-20 World Cup

Hong looked back at the 2014 Brazil tournament when he was the team manager.

This was the same position he was re-appointed to in 2024.

“The experience from 10 years ago was a valuable lesson,” the coach said.

KIM, OH SCORES FOR TAEGUK WARRIORS TO SECURE WIN

Kim and Oh scored for the Taeguk Warriors to secure the win.

Moreover, Kim converted a Lee Kang-in pass for South Korea’s first goal in the 63rd minute.

Furthermore, Oh ensured there would be no comeback from the hosts.

He struck a shot off a Jeon Jin-Woo assist in the 82nd minute for the 2-0 lead.

South Korea’s 11th-straight World Cup appearance is now the sixth-longest in the tournament’s history since they played in 1986.

Brazil holds the longest streak of World Cup appearances with 22 straight, starting from the inaugural 1930 tournament in Uruguay.
