MARESCA CITES VALUE OF CLUB WORLD CUP TITLE AS ‘MORE IMPORTANT’ THAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Enzo Maresca cited the value of winning the CWC title, saying it is “more important” than the Champions League hardware.
Moreover, the 45-year-old Italian Chelsea manager shared he had the best of both situations.
He was part of Man City’s coaching staff that won a Champions League title.
In fact, the former AC Milan midfielder-turned-coach told his players the significance of the CWC with the same level as the Champions League.
“I lived through all these moments, but the truth is that this competition (Club World Cup) is one of the best in the world,” Maresca said.
He added that this is for “the fans of Chelsea to have the chance for the next four years with this badge, the truth is that for us it is an honor.’
BLUES PLAYERS DOWNPLAY CWC TITLE; JAMES SAYS WIN ‘A HUGE STEP IN RIGHT DIRECTION’
Players from The Blues downplayed their CWC title win amid confetti and celebrations at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Even though this tournament crowned “the new undisputed champions of the world” Chelsea players were non-committal.
They resisted to claim they’re on top of global soccer, or even in Europe alone.
Likewise, Blues captain Reece James has left judgment to football fans to decide.
“Does it make us the best team in Europe? I’m not sure. We’re striving to get there,” James said.
“Whether one game decides that, that’s probably up to you to decide,” he added.
